Description

X-ray food inspection solutions: chocolate biscuits

Confectionery manufacturers are under pressure to maximise output, optimise production processes, avoid costly product recalls and comply with strict regulations and industry standards. Eagle X-ray systems help manufacturers meet HACCP-based, GFSI-recognised standards, including:

  • BRC Global Standard for Food Safety
  • International Food Standard (IFS)
  • Safe Quality Food (SQF) 2000 Code
  • FSSC 22000

Eagle X-ray inspection equipment protects brand reputation and consumers from foreign bodies and substandard products in bakery and confectionery applications.

Contaminant detection

The systems inspect solid and layered chocolate bars, buttons, enrobed confectionery, hard-boiled sweets, fondants, toffees, jellies and chewing gum, detecting contaminants regardless of their size, shape or location:

  • Glass shards (including glass in glass containers)
  • Metal fragments (including metal in foil and metallised film packaging)
  • Mineral stone
  • Some plastic and rubber compounds
  • Calcified bone

Eagle Material Discrimination X-ray (MDX) uses dual-energy technology, which is particularly useful for products of varying density such as bags of sweets.

Product integrity checks

Beyond food safety, X-ray systems check product integrity, identifying broken, missing or misshapen products, with simultaneous checks including:

  • Mass measurement
  • Seal inspection
  • Component count

Packaging

Metal packaging does not reduce detection sensitivity. Inspection is available for:

  • Unpackaged products
  • Tall rigid containers (glass, metal, ceramic)
  • Plastic containers
  • Cartons/boxes
  • Bags and sacks
  • Pouches
  • Trays
  • Tubes
